WB I-696 in Warren reopens following tanker crash

Tanker trailer slammed into median near Mound Road Thursday afternoon

WARREN, Mich. – Westbound I-696 reopened around 10 p.m. Thursday after being closed for hours following a tanker trailer crash in Warren.

The crash happened just after 3 p.m.

Crews worked tirelessly to clean up spilled fuel that was spread across the highway.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The driver of the semi was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with minor injuries. Nobody else was hurt.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area while the scene is cleared.

State troopers are continuing to investigate the incident. It does not appear that alcohol is a factor and seat belts were not utilized. No other vehicles were involved.
