LAKE CITY, Mich. – A Michigan State Police trooper used a boat a pair was in the process of winterizing Thursday to save a man who fell out of a fishing boat.

Police said they received a call just after 1 p.m. from a 71-year-old man's wife saying he was in Lake Missaukee in Lake City and unable to get out of the water.

Trooper Kevin Flick responded and borrowed a boat from Sandra and Ted Steinacker, a mother and son pair who were preparing to winterize the vessel.

Flick and the Steinackers used the boat to get to the couple in the middle of the lake, across from the County Park.

The man was pulled from the water and his wife was moved to the Steinackers' boat, which was used to tow the couple's boat back to shore.

Police said first responders on the shore said the man, who was in the water for about 20 minutes before he was rescued, was in good condition.
