Ex-Detroit police & fire pension leader faces child porn charges

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan attorney general's office has charged Walter Stampor, 70, of Sterling Heights, with multiple felonies relating to downloading and possessing child pornography.

Stamper was the Executive Secretary of the Detroit Policemen and Firemen Retirement System until he retired from that post in 2013.

Investigators allege that Stamper downloaded 14 files containing "known" child pornography using BitTorrent on March 14, 2014.

Agents from the state police, the attorney general, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force searched Stampor's home in April. The agents said they discovered what they call "a significant amount of child pornography" on an external hard drive.

"Downloading child pornography is not a victimless crime – the children in those pictures and videos are victimized again and again by the predators who download and trade their images," said Attorney General Bill Schuette.

If convicted, Stamper faces up to seven years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each of ten counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime and up to four years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each of ten counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime and Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Materials.
