Neighbors help save elderly woman who jumps from Roseville house fire

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A house fire Saturday morning forced a woman in her 80s to jump out a window to escape.

According to authorities, the fire broke out just before 5 a.m. at a house in the 17000 block of Birmingham Street. It spread to a neighboring home.

Bill Allen and a neighbor ran to the woman's house. Allen said she had no option but to jump.

“She couldn’t even see. [There was] so much smoke, we couldn’t see her. She couldn’t see us. We didn’t even see how she landed," he said.

Roseville Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Bala said crews started working on the second house and focused on saving a third house.

"It was fast-moving," Bala said.
