New technology makes iPhones water resistant

The technology works on anything with a touchpad

NOVI, Mich. - "Whaaaaaaat?" Samsung commercials featuring Lil Wayne pouring "high end" champagne on his Samsung smart phone certainly was memorable.

Now, after several tests, the company's claims about having a waterproof phone are being criticized for not being 100% accurate.

Consumer reports says the phone can't survive an extended dunk into the water.

That's where a metro Detroit small business owner comes in.

Rob Carter owns the iPhone repair shops "The Pod Drop" in Novi and Rochester.

Each store now has a fascinating new piece of technology that can make your iPhone, yes, iPhone, water resistant.

The machine is exclusive to the state of Michigan. He's the only shop that has them and he gave us a full demonstration of how it works.

The new technology won't waterproof your iPhone, but it will protect it from everyday accidents like dropping your phone in the sink, toilet, lake or pool.

Check out the video. Rob even dunks a phone underwater while playing a Local 4 newscast.

Enjoy, and be careful! Don't get your smart phone wet, unless it's been treated.
