Oak Park man arraigned on murder charges in death of wife, sister-in-law

OAK PARK, Mich. – A man accused of killing his wife and sister-in-law in Oak Park was arraigned Friday afternoon.

Abdul Akhenaton, 61, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and felony firearms violations.

Police said Akhenaton killed his 66-year-old wife, Alice Richardson, and her 53-year-old sister, Gay Richardson, at a home in the 21000 block of Church Street at about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Alice Richardson was found inside a vehicle in the driveway. The daughter was in the car when Alice Richardson was shot and fled the scene, according to officials.

Gay Richardson was found inside the home.

While officers were investigating the scene, the Akhenaton walked into the Oak Park Public Safety Department lobby and turned himself in to police.

"She just told me my auntie's husband killer her and my other auntie," Kenneth Richardson said.

Richardson said his aunt wanted to separate from her husband, but it's still not known what exactly set him off.

"My aunt didn't want to be with him anymore," Kenneth Richardson said. "He was in the basement or whatever."
