DETROIT – A mentally impaired man is in critical condition after he fought with an off-duty police officer and was shot outside the Citadel of Praise Church in Detroit.
The suspect was allegedly armed with an ax when the officer saw him and got into a fight with him. The suspect hit the officer in the knee, making him fall on the ground. While the officer was on the ground the suspect swung the ax at him and the officer fired a shot. At the same time, Detroit police showed up and also fired at the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition. The off-duty officer was taken to the hospital, but the blow to his knee did not break the skin.
