Pedestrian killed by driver who lost control of car in Detroit

Man hit by car at E. 8 Mile Road and I-75 Service Drive

DETROIT – A man in his 50s was killed Tuesday after being struck by a car at East 8 Mile Road and the I-75 Service Drive in Detroit, police said.

A man driving a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, coming off the freeway at 8 Mile Road, lost control of the car, which started to roll and hit the pedestrian, police said.

The man was dead when police arrived at the scene.

Police said the 27-year-old driver of the Vibe and his 54-year-old passenger were taken to the Sinai Grace Hospital in serious condition. The severity of his injuries was not disclosed.

It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The I-75 Service Drive at 8 Mile Road is expected to be closed for several hours, officials said.
