Police accused of excessive force during arrest in Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A video of police arresting a man outside of a bar in Royal Oak on St. Patrick’s Day is making the rounds on social media and many are calling it excessive force.

Police attempted to arrest the 25-year-old man after he was allegedly involved in a fight inside the BlackFinn Ameripub.

“This individual was observed fighting with other patrons in the bar,” Lt. Dave Clemens said.

Cell phone video shows several officers pulling the man in many directions. One grabs the man by his neck. At one point the man ends up on top of a cop and that’s when another officer yells “Taser.”

“It was a very chaotic situation,” Clemens said. “They did the best they could under those conditions to take this person into custody.”

The man arrested in the video has been charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

“At this point, preliminarily, there doesn’t appear to be any misconduct by officers,” Clemens said.

Royal Oak police are investigating.
