Police Calling Mariah Smith Case 'Top Priority'

Officers Continue To Search For Suspects

DETROIT - Just two days after DNA results proved the body of a girl found in a Detroit home was five-year-old Mariah Smith's, Detroit police say they were starting to get tips that could help them find the girl's killer.

Shortly before the body's discovery last Sunday, a man, shown in a gas station surveillance video, bought $20 worth of gas, but only pumped 41 cents worth into a beer can. Police said they want to identify the man as he's suspected of helping set Mariah's body on fire to cover up her killing.

Investigators said Mariah's aunt failed a lie detector test, but no charges have been pressed.

According to Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, now that the girl's body has been identified, he wants the case solved to bring justice.

A funeral for Mariah will be held next Friday.
