Police: Child walking to bus stop chased several blocks by stranger Downriver

Stranger tried to force child into vehicle, police said

MELVINDALE, Mich. – Local police are alerting residents about a disturbing incident involving a 12-year-old child and a 25-year-old stranger Thursday morning.

On 03/16/17 at approximately 0700 hours, a 12 year old child was walking to the bus stop by their house on Palmer near Homestead.

The child passed by an unknown individual described as an African American male approximately 25 years old walking the opposite direction. The child noticed after passing the male that he was now following the child telling the child to stop.

The child became suspicious of this man’s behavior and the child ran away. The unknown African American male chased the child for several blocks. The child said he noticed a silver older model BMW was being driven by another African American male and was following him and the African American male that was chasing the child on foot.

The child stated the African American male who was running caught up and opened up the door of the BMW and grabbed onto their arm trying to force the child inside the car. The child was able to escape and run away. The child noted the BMW followed slowly behind for several blocks and eventually turned away when other people were spotted in the area.

The child described the African American male that chased on foot as approximately 25 years of age, with a medium build, approximately 6’00”. The child stated the male had a goatee and was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head and a black jacket.

The child could not provide much detail about the driver of the BMW besides he was an African American male with short hair and possibly a mustache.

The child described the vehicle as a silver older model BMW four door sedan with tinted rear windows. The child stated the BMW has rear end damage and light front end damage.
