Police: Employee, customer duct-taped during RadioShack robbery in Sterling Heights

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Sterling Heights police say an employee and customer were bound with duct tape during an armed robbery Monday evening at the RadioShack on Van Dyke Avenue just north of 14 Mile Road.

At about 5 p.m., three robbers -- two of which were armed with handguns -- entered the store through the front door and locked it behind them. They confronted an employee at the checkout counter and demanded to be taken to where the cellphones were stored.

The employee obeyed their orders and took them to the back room and unlocked the storage lockers. She went back to the cash register and opened it, too.

The robbers took the cash before taking the employee to the back of the store again where they bound her with duct tape. The robbers left through the back door.

The employee was able to free herself from the tape after the robbers left. She went to the front office of the store where she found a customer bound with duct tape. They were the only two in the store at the time of the robbery, police say.

The robbers all were wearing black masks over their faces.
