Inkster woman accused of shooting teenage son during argument

17-year-old boy taken to hospital in critical condition

INKSTER, Mich. – A teen was shot Thursday morning at an apartment in Inkster and authorities have the boy's mother in custody.

The shooting happened around 8:45 a.m. at the Canterbury Woods Apartments in the 600 block of Tobin Drive, which is near Beech Daly Road and Avondale Street, police said.

The victim, who is 17 years old, has been transported to a hospital. His condition was listed as critical but stable.

Michigan State Police officials said the woman and her son were involved in a heated argument when the mother threatened her son with a handgun and told him to leave the area.

The teen walked outside of the apartment building, but when he came back to the outside door, he started to argue with his mother again. The woman fired one shot from her legally restricted handgun, police said.

The teen was struck in the shoulder area. He was taken to a nearby hospital by a neighbor, police said. He's listed in critical condition.

The woman was taken into police custody for questioning.

State police are handling the investigation.

Canterbury Woods management released the following statement:

"Since early this morning, we have been in touch with police about this sad situation and are cooperating with their investigation. We do not believe any of our other residents' or homes were affected by this incident."
