TROY, Mich. - The city of Troy will be getting a new mayor Friday when Mayor Pro Temp Maureen McGinnis is sworn into office.
McGinnis will be replacing Janice Daniels, who was recalled in Tuesday's election.
With all 31 precincts reporting, the city says 20,763 people voted to recall Daniels, and 18,993 voted to retain her.
Daniels was elected last year. Critics have attacked her sexual politics and her resistance to the transit center. They also accuse her of forcing out City Manager John Szerlag and embarrassing the city.
When McGinnis becomes Mayor, the role of Mayor Pro Tem will be taken over by Councilman Dane Slater.
City Council has until Dec. 11 to appoint a replacement mayor to serve until the November 2013 election.
