Pontiac man dies, mother escapes with baby during break-in at home

3 suspects in custody after gunfire erupts in home on Inglewood in Pontiac

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 27-year-old Pontiac man died early Monday morning during a violent break-in at his home.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said three men burst their way into a home in the 800 block of Inglewood at about 3:30 a.m. Shots were exchanged between the suspects and someone inside the home, Bouchard said. Adrian Contreras was killed and one of the suspects was hurt by the gunfire.

Two other adults, Contreras' wife and 6-month-old child were able to escape unharmed.

"We defended ourselves, my brother and I," said Contreras' brother, David Contreras. "My brother kept them from coming in his room."

The two other suspects were arrested a short time later after fleeing in a car.

Four pit bulls also were removed from the home.
