Pregnant woman fatally stabs her mother in chest at home on Detroit's west side

56-year-old woman fatally stabbed at home on Appoline Street

DETROIT – A pregnant woman with mental issues fatally stabbed her 56-year-old mother overnight inside their home on Detroit's west side, police said.

The stabbing happened on Appoline Street near Seven Mile Road and West Outer Drive.

The family is shattered by the incident, and neighbors believe it has something to do with the mother's desire for her daughter to move out of the home.

"For something like this to happen, it's shocking, and not only that, it's scary," neighbor Cecilia Peace said.

Pandora Cameron, also known as Pandora Hassan, was stabbed in her chest just before midnight Sunday, police said. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was expected to survive. But suddenly, she went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead.

Neighbors said they often saw the daughter sitting outside, but they didn't know she was six months pregnant and bipolar, as she was described by officials.

"I didn't know she was pregnant," Peace said. "I didn't know she was the daughter. She was a young lady sitting in that white chair right there. I'm sorry that that happened, but you never know what's on people's minds."

The 32-year-old woman is in custody and undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at the hospital. Police haven't been able to say if the daughter or the baby were injured, or how the incident went down.

Any possible charges in the case would likely come after the psychological evaluation, which is a three-day process. The woman could be arraigned before then from her hospital bed, which isn't unheard of.
