Professional bass fishing tournament takes place on Lake St. Clair

Top bass anglers compete to become angler, rookie of the year

DETROIT - B.A.S.S. is hosting the Bassmaster Elite Series Plano Championship Chase on Lake St. Clair in Detroit, the final Bassmaster Elite Series professional bass fishing tournament scheduled in 2013.

Immediately following the weigh-in, B.A.S.S. will announce the 2013 Toyota Bassmaster Angler of the Year, the 2013 Rookie of the Year and the Elite Series anglers who have qualified through Angler of the Year points to compete in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.

Organizers said the top bass anglers in the world will compete for a $100,000 prize and coveted entry into the 2014 Bassmaster Classic to be held in Birmingham, Ala., with fishing on Lake Guntersville.

Among the field of 99 competitors will be fishing legend Kevin VanDam and 2013 Bassmaster Classic champion Cliff Pace.

From the final weigh-in at Lake St. Clair Metro Park on Sunday at 3:15 p.m., to participating in the family-friendly Elite Series, organizers said the activities planned throughout the weekend are free and open to the public.

Other festival activities planned throughout the Plano Championship Chase weekend include angler autograph and photo sessions, as well as the opportunity to learn tips and techniques from some of the best bass anglers in the world.

The Bassmaster Elite Series High School Experience will also take place on Saturday. Organizers said it is an opportunity for high school anglers to meet with the pros and learn more about the sport.
