Protest over name tags causes delays at Ambassador Bridge

Windsor police say workers don't want to wear them

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – A dispute over name tags caused delays Tuesday at the Ambassador Bridge crossing.

The Canada Border Services Agency says several officers refused to work because they're questioning the safety implications of wearing a uniform name tag.

A union representing workers has expressed opposition to the name tags, which are used by some other agencies in Canada and the U.S.

Delays also were reported at the Blue Water Bridge connecting Port Huron, Mich., and Sarnia, Ontario.

"It delays everything that UPS needs to deliver. It's putting everything behind," said UPS driver Keith Tracy. "But there's nothing I can do about it though."

Other truck drivers told Local 4 time is money.

Jermaine Richardson said the bridge delays cost him about $90 an hour.

"It's holding me up. I need to get back and forth. We go like two or three times over, back and forth," he said.

Craig Waters said he hauls back and forth across the border. The delayed production personally costs him 40 cents a mile.
