Raid in Eastern Market part of food stamp fraud investigation

Investigation not focuses on public market, only certain businesses

DETROIT – Local 4 has learned that businesses inside the Gratiot Central Market in Detroit are being raided in connection with a food stamp fraud investigation.

Investigators with the USDA, IRS, Michigan State Police and Homeland Security are on the scene, which is south of Eastern Market.

The Eastern Market Corporation said the investigation does not involve the public market and only certain businesses who operate within the vicinity.

Police were also at a home in Shelby Township on Silent Woods Drive, which is also linked to the investigation.
