Remains of sailor killed at Pearl Harbor buried in Port Huron

Navy recently identified remains of Machinist First Class Fred Jones

PORT HURON, Mich. – A hero was laid to rest Saturday in Port Huron. The Navy recently identified his remains: Machinist First Class Fred Jones died at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

On Saturday, a large gathering of extended family honored him 76 years later.

Jones and 428 shipmates died that day. Only recently the Navy identified his remains.

Seventy-six years after that fateful day, no one at Saturday's service even knew him, but he was family and he is a hero.

He received full military honor. His remains were escorted by the Legion Riders.

His grand-niece said Jones' remains will be buried in a family plot next to his sister.
