Residents of Detroit senior apartment complex suffer through heat with no air conditioning

Elevator also stopped working at Lexington Village

DETROIT – Seniors who reside at Lexington Village Apartments in Detroit spent most of Thursday without air conditioning or a working elevator.

Management apparently shut off the high rise's air conditioning a few weeks ago. Residents woke up to scorching temperatures and an elevator that was out of order.

"I'm on the 11th floor and we know heat rises. It was so hot sweat was rolling off your neck. If you were old and had a condition you would fall out," resident Gay Green said.

It took management most of the day to get the air working. By then, heat had already filtered through the building.

Resident Catherine Logan said the complex's manager is on vacation.

"Things run better when she's around," Logan said.

While the air is working now, residents are just hoping they'll be able to get some sleep in the building, which still is hot.
