Retired Canadian detector dog battling cancer travels to Metro Detroit for surgery

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – For 10 years, Jagger sniffed vehicles, luggage and people for currency while working with the Canadian government.

The 11-year-old black Lab made the government $2.4 million. When he was retired, he became a therapy dog that works with cancer patients, but now Jagger is battling cancer himself.

“Everybody loves Jagger,” Border Patrol agent Ian Falzon said.

Falzon worked alongside Jagger when he was a detector dog.

The dog is meeting with oncologists at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Township to undergo surgery to remove a tumor.

“This dog is everything to me. He's my best friend,” Falzon said. “I’m looking forward to seeing him when he comes out.”

Donations to help with Jagger's care can be made here.
