Reward offered for Tapper's, Medawar jewelry store bandits

DETROIT – There is now a $17,000 total reward for information that leads to the capture and conviction of those responsible for robbing two Michigan jewelry stores.

Police said three armed men stormed Tapper's Jewelry Tuesday night in West Bloomfield off Orchard Lake Road, ordering employees and customers to the ground.

No one was hurt, but the thieves got away with thousands of dollars in merchandise.

Just hours before, four men tried to rob Medawar Fine Jewelry off Plainfield Avenue in Grand Rapids.

The owners of that jewelry store were armed and fired off shots, scaring the men away, police said.

The West Bloomfield Police Department and Kent County Sheriff's Department are investigating the two robberies as connected.

The reward breakdown is:

  • Oakland County FBI Violent Gang Task Force, $10,000
  • Tapper's Fine Jewelry, $5,000
  • Crime Stoppers of Michigan, $1,000
  • The Silent Observer, $1,000
