DETROIT - What a dog named Patty has been through in the last few days is difficult for most to imagine. Someone skinned the animal alive and left her for dead in Detroit Thursday.

It's a crime, and the search is on for whoever is responsible. A $1,000 reward is now being offered to find the culprit.

The dog was named Patty after it was found near Patton Park in southwest Detroit. Many are calling it one of the worst cases of animal cruelty.

"Just totally horrific," said Kathy Garza with the rescue organization Providing for Paws. "It's a horrific sight to see. I can't believe that a person would do this to a living being."

Garza fought back tears as she talked about the dog found skinned alive. The animal is now in the care of her organization. Patty will need to undergo several surgeries after being found injured on a nearby doorstep.

"Someone had skinned it from the shoulder around," said Tim Williams who found the dog himself.

Williams contacted police.

"The person would have been skinned if I knew who the person was," said Williams.

"This is the worst case of animal cruelty I've seen," said Garza." To think that there's somebody in our community running around that's doing this to animals it's just shocking. It's incomprehensible."

Garza believes the incident happened somewhere in the nearby park just across the street from where the animal was found lying helplessly.

Now there's a $1,000 reward in hopes of finding the person responsible.

"You need help," said Garza. "You need help. How could you possibly hurt a living thing? We'll find you help. Turn yourself in."

If you have information you can make an anonymous tip by contacting Providing for Paws at 734-237-1812.

The $1,000 reward will go to any information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
