The Sheriff's Office said someone had called 911 Tuesday alerting deputies that the teen was hanging by his neck on the grounds of Davisburg Elementary in Springfield Township .

The chain hanging from the pulley mechanism is what people grab onto. Deputies had to use bolt cutters to free the boy. Sources close to the investigation told Local 4 the chain was wrapped around his neck twice.

He had a faint pulse when deputies arrived and he was rushed to a hospital.

The Sheriff's Office said the teen was with an 18-year-old Springfield Township woman playing on the zip line and the incident appears to be a "tragic accident."

Investigators have been trying to figure out what went wrong at the playground.

The victim was a student in the Holly School District.

The Genesee County Medical Examiner's office said an autopsy will be performed.
