SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says a 15-year-old Rose Township boy who had to be cut down from a zip line at a school playground earlier this week has died.

The victim died Thursday at Genesys Hospital.

The Sheriff's Office said someone had called 911 Tuesday alerting deputies that the teen was hanging by his neck on the grounds of Davisburg Elementary in Springfield Township .

The chain hanging from the pulley mechanism is what people grab onto. Deputies had to use bolt cutters to free the boy. Sources close to the investigation told Local 4 the chain was wrapped around his neck twice.

He had a faint pulse when deputies arrived and he was rushed to a hospital.

The Sheriff's Office said the teen was with an 18-year-old Springfield Township woman playing on the zip line and the incident appears to be a "tragic accident."

Investigators have been trying to figure out what went wrong at the playground.

The victim was a student in the Holly School District.

The Genesee County Medical Examiner's office said an autopsy will be performed.
