Rough water conditions suspend search for missing St. Clair Shores kayaker

Search will likely resume in coming days

HURON COUNTY, Mich. –  Officials on Sunday afternoon suspended their search for a missing kayaker from St. Clair Shores.

The decision was made at 4 p.m., due to rough water conditions.

“Weather permitting, we hope to conduct other searches in the days to come using boat patrols, side scan sonar, our drone and divers,” officials said in a news release. “This has been a challenging 24 hours for searchers and very tragic times for the family and friends of the victim.”

The importance of having life jackets and knowing one's limits and kayaks can't be stressed enough, officials continued, adding that they have no other information to release at this time.
