San Diego zoo wants helping naming new panda cub

Zoo taking suggestions through its website to name cub after he is 100 days old

The San Diego Zoo's newest (and cutest) addition is slowing reaching a new milestone – opening his eyes!

Staff at the zoo noticed during an exam this week that the 45-day old panda cub is starting to get his first peek at the world. They expect it to still be another 20 days before his eyes fully open.

The cub is four pounds and more than 16 inches long.

The zoo will name the cub after he is 100 days old – and is asking for the public's help in the process.

The community can submit name suggestions for the cub on the zoo's website from Sept. 17 through Sept. 24.

All names must be submitted in Chinese Pinyin, the official system to transcribe Chinese characters into Latin script. A significance associated with the name must also be submitted.
