LIVONIA, Mich. - Schoolcraft College, in collaboration with the St. Joseph Mercy Health System, has opened the St. Joe’s Sports Dome in Livonia.
The dome is located on Schoolcraft's Livonia campus along Haggerty Road just north 6 Mile Road. It will be used to provide athletic training and sports performance services to the Michigan Wolves and Hawks youth soccer teams through the St. Joe’s MercyElite Sports Performance program.
MercyElite will also use the dome to provide strength, conditioning, speed and agility training to local sports teams.
Schoolcraft’s SC Elite Program also was launched. The program is a collaboration with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, MercyElite Sports Performance, the Legacy Center, the Wolves and Hawks Soccer Club and the Schoolcraft Culinary Arts Department.
The program will provide health, fitness and nutritional training to youth and adults.
The Legacy Center Sports Complex will offer team-oriented athletic development coaching and programming, including camps, clubs and leagues for athletic excellence in volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, football, lacrosse and basketball at the dome.
The center is located in Brighton, but will provide programming concepts at Schoolcraft.
SC Elite members will train in the dome and in Schoolcraft’s fitness center, and the school’s culinary program will provide healthy meals and healthy recipe options.
The St. Joe health system will also open a 6,000 square-foot urgent care and student health center this summer in the Jeffress Center on Schoolcraft’s campus at 7 Mile Road and Haggerty Road.
The center will provide walk-in medical care for non-emergencies such as sprains, wounds that need stitches, rashes and illnesses. Students and employees will also have access to health services such as physicals.
"We are excited to not only help the college care for their local students and staff, but to bring wellness efforts out into the community to help people lead healthier lives and make an impact on the health of the local community,” said Dave Spivey, chief integration officer for Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and president and CEO of St. Mary Mercy Livonia hospital.
