Search continues for Michigan man who went missing while hiking in Montana

LIVINGSTON, Mont. – Crews continued searching Wednesday for a 39-year-old Michigan man who was reported missing in the Crazy Mountains northeast of Livingston.

The man was reported overdue from a hike on Monday night. Searchers found his vehicle at a trailhead in Sweet Grass County.

Park County Undersheriff Clay Herbst says the man was believed to be hiking in rugged and difficult terrain in the Cave Lake area.

He was in Montana volunteering with the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance counting mountain goats in the Crazy Mountains. A notice of the project on the alliance’s website says volunteers must be capable and experienced backpackers with quality boots and camping gear.

An air and ground search on Tuesday turned up no sign of the man, whose name and hometown haven’t been released.
