Search underway for man who pointed gun at officers on Detroit's east side

Officer fires shot that did not hit man, police say

DETROIT – A search is underway Saturday night for a man who was pointing a gun at police officers on Detroit's east side, police said.

An officer did open fire one shot at the man, but he was not hit.

Officers responded around 9:06 p.m. to a report of a person with a weapon in the area of Troester and Seymour streets.

Police said when officers arrived, they talked to people who pointed out the man with the weapon.

As the officers approached the man, he started running away from the officers, police said.

There was a brief foot chase when the man pulled out the weapon. Police said one officer fired a shot that did not hit the man.

It is unknown if the man fired his weapon. However, the suspect did drop his weapon and it was recovered, police said.

Police surrounded the area and a search is underway.
