Suspect arrested after confronting gas station over releasing his photo to police

Man arrested for alleged sexual assault on July 10

DETROIT – Just hours after Crime Stoppers released photos and a sketch of a man whom they say is wanted in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in Detroit, police made an arrest.

The woman was assaulted July 10 after accepting a ride from the man after she got into in a fight with her boyfriend. The man and a good Samaritan stopped to break up the fight.

"The good Samaritan advised the victim that the male in the Grand Prix would drive her home. The good Samaritan said he was a good man, a member of her church and that he visits her home," Crime Stoppers said in a statement.

Instead, the man took the woman to the Zoom gas station at Plymouth and Hubbell roads before driving to a vacant house on Foley Street and to sexually assaulting her, according to Crime Stoppers.

UPDATE:

Local 4's Lauren Podell was at the gas station when a man matching the description and driving a silver Pontiac Grand Prix entered the gas station and questioned gas station employees about why they released his picture to police.

The man fled the gas station in the Grand Prix, but was taken into custody by police in a nearby neighborhood.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
