Snow adds to cold Friday in southeast Michigan

Snow is being added to cold in Detroit and Southeast Michigan Friday.

Accumulations will be on the light side.

This is why no watches nor warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service, but the flakes are so light and fluffy that they are blowing around and making a mess of highways and reducing visibility at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and elsewhere.

My Local 4 Weather Watcher Jake reported 2.5 inches of snow around 9:30 am ET.

As of 10:03am, weather spotters for the NWS, reported an inch of snow in Chelsea, 1.1 inches in Ann Arbor and 1.5 inches in Dexter.

Total accumulations will be between 1 and 3 inches by the end of Friday afternoon.

The higher amounts will be in Livingston County, areas west of I-275 in Washtenaw County, western Wayne County and south of I-94 in Lenawee and Monroe Counties.  Commuters can expect a slow, messy commute on the way home from work, while picking kids up from school or traveling to their weekend getaway.

Snow will come to an end Friday night with lows in the middle and low teens.

Detroit Area radar at 10:24am ET on Friday, January 25, 2013.

Saturday and Sunday will remain colder than average with highs in the 20s each day and lows in the teens and single digits each night.

Relief from Detroit's Arctic chill will arrive early next week with afternoon temps in the middle and upper 30s Monday and low and middle 40s Tuesday.  However, more snow and some sleet is expected ahead of a warm front Monday, and rain will fall during the day Tuesday possibly changing back to snow Tuesday night.
