Slows BBQ, other nearby businesses broken into overnight

Detroit police investigate string of Corktown break-ins

DETROIT – Popular Corktown restaurant Slows BBQ was broken into early Tuesday morning, and it's not the only spot targeted on Michigan Avenue.

Police are focusing on the back of the Slows BBQ restaurant. Officers found an exit door propped open. They realized that's where the burglars came out of the building.

On the other side of the building officers found milk crates stacked near a storage container. They believe someone used the milk crates to jump up into a crawl space and into the building.

Officers did not find anything obviously missing inside the restaurant. The cash register is still there.

Johnny Noodle King also broken into

Police also are investigating a break-in at Johnny Noodle King, a restaurant which is about a mile south of Slows on West Fort Street, and at a used car dealership and collision shop about a mile west on Michigan Avenue.

Police are investigating whether these break-ins are related. They suspect they are, especially since this all happened between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday.
