State police show off new forensic evidence academy

Forensic academy will provide CSI training for local police in Michigan

DETROIT - The state police will introduce public and law enforcement officials in Detroit and Wayne County to the agency's new forensic evidence academy.

Forensic experts with answer questions and show off crime scene processing equipment at the Thursday morning event in Detroit.

Forensic science director John Collins will explain how laboratory testing is conducted and discuss the new academy and crime scene response certification that will be offered to police across the state beginning in 2013.

The academy is among the state's public safety initiatives announced in March by Gov. Rick Snyder.
