Strangest Facebook groups you can join

You may just want to join one of these 5 odd groups

Facebook shines a light on all the many shades of weirdness that exist in modern society.

Basically, if there's a strange pastime or perspective that is attracting interest in the wider world, then you can bet your bottom dollar that there will be a Facebook group dedicated to it.

No hobby or topic is too small or too niche to feature, and that is one of the great things about Facebook. It isn't just about big business or mass conformity; there is room for people to demonstrate their individuality and their quirkiness.

With all this in mind, let's look at five of the strangest groups that you can join on Facebook. Who knows, you may even decide that you absolutely have to join some of them?!

No. 5: All I've Ever Wanted Is To Be A Power Ranger

When kids are small, they like nothing better than to dress up as a superhero and imagine that they are Spider-Man, Superman or Wonder Woman.

And some kids, when they grow up, like nothing better than to join a Facebook group dedicated to living life like a Power Ranger.

"All I've Ever Wanted Is To Be A Power Ranger" has nearly 10,000 members and includes photos of members dressed up as their favorite Power Ranger, plus photos of them meeting Power Ranger celebrities such as Steve Cardenas.

However, perhaps the most awesome feature of the group is its 31-step guide to becoming a Power Ranger. These steps are listed comprehensively and include solicitations to never beat up another Ranger, never reveal your true identity and to look good in the Ranger spandex outfit!

Makes you wonder, how would a Power Ranger fare in our next group's activity?

No. 4: Chess Boxing

Ever fancied yourself as a pugilist? Or as a handy chess player? Maybe you're not exceptional at either. However, perhaps the combination of Chess Boxing might be the perfect fit?

After all, multi-event athletes, such as decathletes and heptathletes, are considered to be among the most elite of sporting practitioners. Chess Boxing just takes this multisport ethos and adds a new twist, with athletic ability being allied with brain power.

The Chess Boxing Facebook group has more than 2,000 fans and is dedicated to promoting this pastime, declaring to doubters that "It's a real sport."

It is hard to believe, however, that being good at boxing must convey a distinct advantage.

For example, if Mike Tyson were to take on Garry Kasparov, the chances are that Tyson would win. It's difficult after all to plot chess moves from an unconscious and horizontal position.

But you just know some chess boxers would eagerly join our next group ...

No. 3: I Secretly Want To Punch Slow-Walking People In The Back Of The Head

This Facebook group is dedicated to people who need to express their annoyance at other people walking too slow in front of them on the sidewalk.

It's more aimed at people who could walk faster but choose to dawdle, rather than people who have a genuine excuse for walking more slowly than the average young fit member of society.

With more than 2,000 members, and several other groups dedicated to similar sentiments, it seems that this group has struck a chord with many of us. However, perhaps it also shows how caught up so many people are in the rat race that consumes so many big cities.

It would be interesting to see how many of this group's members are from chilled-out sleepy little backwaters. Not many?

Our next Facebook group takes things a little less seriously, or at least we hope so ...

No. 2: Physics Doesn't Exist, It's All Gnomes

And you thought you had the world all figured out. If your theories don't include gnomes, well, this group says you're flat-out wrong.

The world is, in fact, run by gnomes, according to the "Physics Don't Exist, It's All Gnomes" Facebook group. Everything from electricity (tiny gnomes running around inside cables swapping messages and high fives) to computers (gnomes sitting inside your PC at a tiny desk) can be explained away with gnomes.

The group has attracted more than 80,000 gnome-loving Facebookers and even has an online Gnomopedia set up to explain everything from gravity and television to alcohol and food.

And if Facebook isn't enough to satisfy your gnome needs, you can also follow this group on Twitter through the @gnomopedia account.

Just think, you might just be the one to use gnome theory to crack some problem that has left scientists baffled for decades.

Or, you could start looking for love instead ...

No. 1: Finding LOVE In All The Wrong Places

This is quite a fun group. Its creator has a nice poetic turn of phrase stating that "my heart skips a beat in the shape of chewing gum on the street."

The group's information page also includes a block of text that sets out the purpose of the group, stating "I see ... not dead people ... but love hearts hidden in this world of ours ... keep them peeled and see that love is all around ... a heart can be hidden in a cloud, a crisp packet or even a monkey's bum-bum [see profile pic] ... Take some evidence and add it ... ?"

The profile picture in question shows two monkeys grappling, and one of them is displaying a perfect pink heart shape on his (or her?) bottom.

The aim, then, is to find other unusual heart-shaped things and post photos of them! And the group's members have done just that, posting pictures of everything heart-shaped -- from potato chips and rain puddles to pancakes and earbud cords.
