Survivors of deadly crash at Livingston County intersection are improving, state police say

BRIGHTON, Mich. – The conditions of three people who survived a deadly two-car crash last week at an intersection in Livingston County are improving, Michigan State Police report. 

Five people were killed May 9 in the crash at the intersection of Argentine Road and M-59 in Oceola Township. There were four people in each vehicle. Matthew Carrier, 22, Kyle Eugene Lixie, 23, and Albert Boswell, 39, all survived. They are hospitalized but all of them are now in stable condition.

Carrier, of Fenton, is accused of speeding through a stop sign. The state suspended his driver's license in December. Boswell was driving the car that was hit on M-59 at Argentine Road. He was driving with an expired license, officials said.

State police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports. Police said they will deliver their investigation to the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office when it is complete.

Candice Lynn Dunn, 35, of Oakland County, her mother Linda K. Hurley, 69, of Macomb County, and Hurley's boyfriend, Jerome Joseph Tortomasi, 73, of Macomb County, were killed in the crash. They were Boswell's passengers.

Justin Andrew-Humberto Henderson, 20, of Fenton, was a front passenger in the car Carriers was driving, which was heading south on Argentine Road, police said. Henderson and rear passenger Preston Taylor Wetzel, 24, of Fenton, were killed in the crash.
