Suspect in mom/daughter kidnapping case faces circuit court arraignment

Clarence Johnson accused of kidnapping

DETROIT - A man is scheduled to be arraigned in circuit court Friday on charges of kidnapping a 45-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter.

Clarence Johnson is charged with carjacking, kidnapping, armed robbery, criminal sexual conduct and assault.

Police said Johnson forced the mother at gunpoint into her car while she was getting gas on Dec. 12 at Livernois and Cortland.

Johnson then allegedly rear-ended a 45-year-old Redford man, taking his car and forcing the mother and daughter into that car.

Police said Johnson attempted to sexually assault the girl.

When Johnson was spotted the next morning on Detroit's east side, police said he pointed a gun at officers and ran off while holding the girl.

He was later found in the basement of a vacant house.
