Suspect in Westland City Hall explosives threat in custody

Police searching building for reported explosives

WESTLAND, Mich. – The situation involving a man who claimed to have explosives inside Westland City Hall has ended.

The suspect was taken into police custody around 2:30 p.m. Monday. Police have been scouring the building looking for the alleged explosives. Ford Road was shut down near N. Carlson Street for more than an hour while the situation unfolded.

Westland police said it was a hostage situation at one point.

John Glenn High School and the Career-Technical Center were also put on a precautionary lockdown as a result of the situation.
