DETROIT – 
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged two teens who were shot by a utility worker with armed robbery.
Niko Brown, 17, and his brother Devontay Brown, 16, are charged in connection with the robbery of two utility workers on Feb. 6.
Detroit Public Lighting workers were working on a light pole on the city's west side around 9 p.m. when the robbery occurred.
Worthy says Niko Brown was armed with a weapon and accompanied by his brother when they approached the men and robbed them of their money.
Niko Brown placed a weapon to the head of one worker and attempted to rob him of his phone, according to Worthy.
The other worker was able to retrieve his gun, which he had a permit to legally carry, and fired shots at both suspects.
Detroit police were called to the scene and discovered the brothers wounded nearby.
They were taken to the hospital and are still recovering from gunshot wounds.
The teens' mother, Selena Mitchel, previously told Local 4 the story didn't add up.
"My 16-year-old, he's a smart kid, intelligent kid. He wasn't no ghetto gangster, no robber, never beat up a person or nothing like that," said Mitchell. "I never heard of my sons carrying no guns. I just don't understand."
Niko Brown is charged with armed robbery and felony firearm possession, his bond for was sent at $300,000 cash or surety.
Devontay Brown will be tried as an adult on the same charge and bond was set at $100,000.
The pair were arraigned in the hospital on Tuesday.
A preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb.25.
