Thief breaks in, empties cash register at Dairy Freezzz ice cream shop in Center Line

CENTER LINE, Mich. – A thief broke into the Dairy Freezzz ice cream shop in Center Line early Wednesday.

Security cameras captured a man entering the business on Van Dyke near 10 Mile Road through a window at 4:35 a.m.

Once inside, he went to the cash register, where he took a few days worth of earnings and some rolled coins.

For the owner of the family business, the break-in raises concerns.

"It's not the money of it, it's the safety of it, that feeling that you don't have that security anymore. That tears at you," Suzy Cox said.

Dairy Freezzz has been a big part of the community for 30 years. Cox is taking the break-in personally.

"When you put your heart and soul into something for so long, you really take it personal," she said. "It's like stealing from your grandma is how I feel about it."

Cox is offering free ice cream for life for the tip that identifies the thief.

A few weeks ago and 4 miles away, a similar looking man stole the cash register of Vivo's Food and Spirits in Warren.

For Cox, she's just worried the man will return to Dairy Freezzz.

"I'm honestly scared that he's going to come back. He got enough money to make it worth it to come back," she said.
