Three people in one vehicle were killed Christmas Day afternoon in a head-on collision with another vehicle in Salem Township.

Two women and one man, all in one car, died when their vehicle collided with another car on 8 Mile Road Near Currie Road.

The female driver of the other car was hospitalized.  There was no immediate word on her condition.

Salem Township Fire Chief Jim Rachwal said the crash was under investigation.

"We have had fatals on that road. Obviously with the ice and snow that we had just recently suffered, it has not helped the situation. It is a  two-lane 55-miles-per-hour down here and unfortunately, the consequences can be fatal," Rachwal said.

The victims of the crash have not yet been identified.

Chief  Rachwal said the two vehicles involved were each heading to holiday family gatherings.

"Our hearts go out to the family, say a prayer for them.  Unfortunately, there was nothing that we can do tonight,"  Rachwal said.
