ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A crane that tipped over onto a garage in Royal Oak was removed early Friday morning.
On Royal Oak's 2nd Street Thursday evening it was an impromptu block party.
That tends to happen in times like these. They made the best of a bad situation.
The power was out for a few blocks around so everyone brought their lawn chairs, their dogs and even their reptiles -- a Russian tortoise -- the things you learn about your neighbors!
A drywall crane used by a tree service which was cutting down a massive maple tipped backward and on top of Tyler Lynch's unattached garage and some electrical wires.
Lynch and his daughter Olivia are relaxed about it, too.
"It could be a lot worse," he said. "No one was hurt. Our home wasn't damaged. It's just a garage and there weren't any vehicles and not much property in there, and when it's all said and done we'll probably get a new garage."
Still, the tree service and crane operators spent much of the evening trying to figure out how to pull the monstrous, upended truck down gently enough to avoid causing more damage.
Lynch was more excited about the hometown team than his driveway disaster.
"It's been an interesting day. The Tigers won, though. I head the walkoff homerun on my way home so it was like, alright our garage may be destroyed but at least they won one game," he said.
The tree was Lynch's neighbor's. He gave permission to use his driveway.
