Toddler in critical condition after falling into pool in Dearborn neighborhood

2-year-old girl pulled from pool on Boldt Street

UPDATE: Dearborn police previously told Local 4 the 2-year-old girl had died. She is in critical condition.

DEARBORN, Mich. - A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition Friday after she fell into a pool at a home in Dearborn, police said.

The girl was pulled from a neighbor's pool on Boldt Street, which is near Telegraph Road just south of Michigan Avenue.

She was unresponsive and homeowner performed CPR. The girl was rushed to a hospital.

"Those kids seem to be escape artists, but I think they're just negligent parents who are sleeping all the time," neighbor Vincent Laing said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the girl and her 3-year-old brother exited the home while their parents were sleeping. They climbed a chain link fence to gain access to the neighbor's yard.

Neighbors say police have been to the girl's home often.

Police confirmed that child protective services had been involved at some point.

"This is a tragic situation for all the families involved," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said. "The Dearborn Police Department asks that you respect the family's privacy while they tend to their daughter's needs and we pray for a full recovery."

The investigation is ongoing.
