WARREN, Mich. - Detectives of the Warren Police Department have made two more arrests in connection with a homicide and critical stabbing.
Police said Vernell Lamain Whitfield, brother of previously arrested homicide suspect Johnny Whitfield, turned himself into Warren police. He was brought before Judge Chmura, of the 37th District Cour,t on one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm. A not guilty plea was entered and bond was set at $10,000.
Nathan Sutton was arrested Wednesday and charged with accessory after the fact. He was also brought before Chmura of the 37th District Court. Bond was set at $10,000.
The arrests stem from the investigation of the homicide of a 27-year-old Warren resident and the critical stabbing of his twin brother.
Authorities said Warren officers were dispatched to the 20800 block of Atlantic Avenue at 8:08 p.m. on Dec. 1. When officers arrived, there were two victims down on the sidewalk with stab wounds.
One of the victims and multiple witnesses identified the attacker as “Chavez,” whom detectives were able to identify as Johnny Whitfield, police said.
