DETROIT – An Uber driver and a Lyft driver were carjacked over the weekend on Detroit’s west side, police said.
A 31-year-old Lyft driver in a silver 2013 Kia Forte was flagged down at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday near Grand River Avenue and the Southfield Freeway while he was picking up fares, according to Detroit police.
The carjackers escaped with the vehicle and the driver’s personal property, police said. Two men are believed to be involved. They are described as black men, both armed, one of them with long curly black hair.
A 30-year-old Uber driver in a black Lincoln Navigator picked up a man at about 4 a.m. Sunday near Schoolcraft Avenue and Schaefer Road at about 4 a.m. Sunday
Police said the man produced a gun and ordered the driver to a nearby ATM, where he was forced to withdraw money.
Authorities said the victim attempted to overtake the man and was able to take away his handgun, but the man took control of the victim's vehicle.
Police said the victim escaped from the vehicle, and the carjacker drove off with the Lincoln Navigator.
The carjacker is described as black, in his late 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 110 pounds, with short hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt.
