Overpass repair will begin Friday on four structures above M-53 (Van Dyke Freeway) in Macomb County, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

During this project, weekday single-lane closures along M-53 will be staggered to accommodate rush-hour traffic.

All work on this $1.2 million investment is expected to be completed in late August.

On weekdays, motorists should expect one lane closed on southbound M-53 from noon until 5 a.m. the following morning.

One lane may be closed on northbound M-53 from 8 p.m. until noon. On weekends, one lane may be closed in both directions of M-53.

Beginning Friday, 22 Mile Road over M-53 will be closed for 10 days. Afterwards, 21 Mile Road over M-53 will be closed for 10 days.

Detours will be a posted for both closures.

Motorists should expect work on the Clinton River Road and 23 Mile Road overpasses to occur simultaneously. Lane closures will be in effect during work on the 23 Mile Road overpass.
