Violent gas station attack in Pontiac caught on tape

Customer knocked unconscious during robbery, suspect in custody

PONTIAC, Mich. – A vicious attack on a gas station customer in Pontiac has been caught on tape.

The incident happened Monday night at the Sunoco station in the 1100 block of North Perry Street.

Cameras were rolling as the 19-year-old victim was ambushed while pumping gas, hit in the head and knocked unconscious by his attacker.

The scene lasts less than a minute and the video shows the thief going through the victim's pocket as he lay on the ground. A cellphone and cash were stolen, but the victim wasn't seriously hurt.

Oakland County deputies said they got a tip that the thief was at an address on Parkwood Avenue and ended up finding property belonging to the victim and recovering a handgun allegedly used during the incident.

Deputies said the 27-year-old suspect "implicated" himself in the crime but didn't immediately release any more details on him until charges were formally issued.
