Warren man faces new charge of homicide in baby's death

Gregory Lowe accused of shaking Lailah Ann Williams, who died from her injuries in April

WARREN, Mich. – A Warren man accused of shaking a 1-year-old girl who later died from her injuries is now facing a homicide/felony murder charge.

Gregory Lowe was originally charged with first-degree child abuse for his actions involving 21-month-old Lailah Ann Williams.

Lailah was rushed to a hospital on April 4 and died April 16.

Police said the girl's mother had left her in the care of Lowe while she was work.

"From his words, she fell down the stairs. From what the doctors indicated, the injuries were consistent with abusive trauma, more commonly known as shaken baby syndrome," said Warren police Detective Cpl. Jim Twardesky.

Lowe is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charge in July.

Lowe is not Lailah's father, but he and her mother are expecting a baby.

Lailah's grandmother, Kisha Avinger, said she will have a hard time going on without her granddaughter.

"He should have just called me and I would have came or someone would have come and picked her up," Avinger said.
