WARREN, Mich. - A man is in custody Sunday after police say he ran down a Warren officer during a traffic stop.

The officer stopped a car at 10 Mile and Dequindre roads. He walked up to the suspect's car and asked the driver for his license and registration.

That's when the driver sped off and hit the officer as he drove away. Police gave chase and the suspect was stopped near Van Dyke Avenue and 10 Mile Road.

Witnesses say police used a spike strip in the intersection to stop the driver while a police car rammed the vehicle. An open 40 ounce beer was removed from the suspect's vehicle, say witnesses.

The driver was taken into custody. The officer's injuries were not serious and he is expected to be ok.
