WARREN, Mich. - A Warren Police Athletic League (PAL) coach has been charged with receipt, possession and distribution of child pornography, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Wednesday.

In the complaint, the coach, 39-year-old Mark Mitchell, admitted that he searched for, downloaded, and viewed images of child porn.

Mitchell told an FBI agent during an interview that he downloaded the pornographic images and videos to his computer to see if he could identify any of the children in the videos as being a child that he coached in the Warren PAL league.

He also said that if he were to identify a child in a video that it was his intention to report it to law enforcement according to the complaint filed Wednesday.

In the documents filed, Mitchell states that he downloaded approximately 200 videos to his computer.

Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green tells Local 4 that Mitchell last coached football in the fall of 2012.  He coached both boys and girls ages 10-12 years old.

Green said that Mitchell had volunteered to coach with PAL for the past 6 years. Mitchell was hired on after passing a complete background check and application process.

"He's been a very consensus volunteer, him and his wife, and there has never been any indication or reason to suspect anything," said Green.

The FBI seized Mitchell's computer and it is currently awaiting a forensic review.

While the criminal complaint has been filed Mitchell has yet to face the charges in federal court.
